These terms cover how LinguMon works and what each side is responsible for. They are written to be read, not to be skipped. Where a rule has a number in it, that number is the one the site actually enforces.
LinguMon is the service at lingumon.com. In these terms, LinguMon, we and us mean that service, and you means the person using it, whether as a student, as a tutor, or as a visitor reading the site.
We have deliberately not printed a company name, registration number or registered office on this page, because we will not state a corporate detail here that we have not confirmed. If you need those details for an invoice, a tax record or a formal notice, ask support and we will give you what applies at that time.
You need an account to book lessons, to message a tutor and to teach. You must give an email address that reaches you, keep your password to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else has used your account.
One person, one account. Do not share an account with someone else, and do not create a new one to get around a suspension. If you are under 18, an adult responsible for you must set up and oversee the account.
LinguMon is a marketplace. We list independent tutors, provide the booking calendar, hold and move the money, and run the video classroom where lessons happen. We are not the tutor, and we do not employ the tutors listed here.
The lesson itself is an agreement between you and the tutor. What is taught, how it is taught and whether it suits you are matters between the two of you. We review applications before a profile goes live, but a review is not an accreditation and we do not certify anyone's qualifications.
A booking reserves a specific slot with a specific tutor for a specific length. The price and the time are shown before you confirm, and the time is displayed in the timezone set on your profile. Keep that timezone correct: a lesson missed because your profile said the wrong timezone is still a lesson the tutor kept free.
Bookings need a minimum amount of notice and cannot be made beyond a fixed horizon. The exact limits are applied by the site at the moment you book.
Lessons are paid for from a credit balance. You add credit, and the price of a lesson is taken from that balance when you book it, not when the lesson happens. Credit is held for buying lessons on LinguMon. It is not a bank deposit, it earns nothing, and it cannot be transferred to another person.
Credit does not expire. Refunds are returned to the same balance. Where a payment is processed by a card provider, that provider's own terms apply to the card transaction itself.
You may cancel a booked lesson at any time before it starts. If you cancel more than 12 hours before the start, the full price returns to your credit balance. If you cancel later than that, 50% of the price returns to your balance and the remainder is kept by the tutor, who held the hour open.
If a tutor cancels, you are refunded in full regardless of notice. If a tutor does not join a lesson you attended, report it and the lesson is refunded in full once we have checked the records for that lesson.
A lesson you simply do not attend, without cancelling, is charged in full.
Tutors set their own rates and availability and teach as independent people, not as our employees. You are responsible for your own taxes and for any licences or permissions the law where you live requires in order to teach.
LinguMon retains a commission of 20% of each lesson price. Your share is held as pending until the lesson is completed, then becomes available to withdraw. Payout requests are reviewed before they are paid, and we may hold a payout while a dispute about the lessons behind it is open.
Tutors must also follow the tutor guidelines, which form part of these terms for anyone teaching on the platform.
Only a student who completed a lesson with a tutor may review that tutor. Reviews must describe your own experience. Do not offer or accept anything in exchange for a review, and do not write a review of your own profile through another account.
We do not delete a review because its subject dislikes it. We do remove reviews that contain personal data about someone else, threats, abuse, or claims we can show to be fabricated. Tutors can reply publicly to any review of them.
Do not use LinguMon to harass, threaten or discriminate against anyone, to share illegal material, to advertise unrelated products to other users, or to collect other people's personal data. Do not attempt to break, overload or reverse engineer the site, and do not scrape it.
Arranging bookings or payment outside LinguMon in order to avoid the commission is a breach of these terms, and it removes the refund and dispute protection that both sides otherwise have.
You keep ownership of what you write and upload: your profile, your messages, your reviews and any materials you share. You give us permission to store and display that content where it is needed to run the service, for example showing your profile in search results.
Do not upload anything you do not have the right to use, including copyrighted teaching materials that are not yours to distribute.
We try to keep LinguMon running and the classroom working, but we do not promise that it will be available without interruption. Maintenance, outages at providers we depend on, and faults happen. Where a lesson is lost because of a failure on our side, tell us and we will put the credit back.
We are responsible for running the marketplace as described on this site. We are not responsible for the teaching itself, for a tutor's conduct outside the platform, for whether you reach a particular level, or for arrangements you make privately with someone you met here.
Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under consumer law that cannot be limited by agreement.
We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or the tutor guidelines, or where there is credible evidence of harm to another user. Where we do, we will say why and give you a chance to respond, except where doing so would put someone at risk.
You can close your own account by writing to support from the address on the account. Lessons already booked need to be settled or cancelled first, and any credit balance is dealt with at that point.
We may update these terms as the service changes. The date at the top is the date of the current version. If a change materially affects money or cancellation rules, we will tell account holders by email before it applies rather than changing the page quietly.
If something goes wrong, contact support first. Nearly everything is resolved that way, and it is much faster than any formal route. We will tell you what we decided and the reasoning behind it.
These terms do not yet name a governing law or a court, because that follows the corporate detail described in clause 1 and we will not state it before it is settled. Your rights under the consumer law of the country you live in are unaffected by that.
Support contact details are on the support page. How we handle personal data is set out in the privacy notice.
