How it works
Five steps, and the rules that sit behind them. The numbers on this page are the ones the site actually enforces, not a description of how it usually goes.
Search by language, then narrow by price, by what you want to work on (conversation, exams, business, a specific grammar problem) and by the days you are actually free.
Profiles carry the rate, the languages the tutor teaches and to what level, their specialities, and reviews written by students who finished a lesson with them.
Most tutors offer a trial lesson of 30 minutes at a reduced rate, one per student per tutor, so you can find out whether you get on before committing to a full hour.
Tutors publish a weekly schedule on their own clock. LinguMon converts it to the timezone on your profile before you ever see it, so the time you click is the time you turn up. If you travel, change the timezone in your settings and every booking moves with you.
Lessons need at least 60 minutes of notice, and you can book up to 60 days ahead. Choose the length you want from the durations the tutor offers.
Booking does not put you on a subscription and does not commit you to a second lesson. One at a time is a perfectly normal way to use LinguMon.
Payment runs through a credit balance. You top up once, and each booking takes that lesson's price out of your balance at the moment you book it. Nothing is charged per lesson at the moment the lesson happens.
Credit does not expire. Refunds from a cancellation go back to the same balance, ready for the next booking.

The classroom opens 10 minutes before the start and stays open until the lesson ends. Open the lesson from your dashboard and join. There is no app to install and no separate meeting link to find.
Inside the classroom you have video, audio, text chat and screen sharing. Screen sharing is what most tutors use to put a text, a slide or an exercise in front of you.
Before a first lesson, test your camera and microphone in the browser you plan to use, and join a few minutes early.
Once a lesson is complete you can rate the tutor and write a review. Only students who actually had the lesson can review it, which is what keeps the ratings on this site worth reading.
Tutors can reply to a review in public. Nobody can delete a review because they did not like it.
If a lesson went wrong, write to the tutor first through messages. Most problems are a misunderstanding about time or level and get sorted in two messages.
Changing plans
Written out in full, because this is the part people want to know before they book anything.
Cancel for free. The full lesson price returns to your credit balance straight away and the slot goes back into the tutor's schedule.
50% of the price comes back to your balance. The rest goes to the tutor, who kept the hour free and can no longer fill it.
You are refunded in full, whenever it happens. Tutors who cancel repeatedly are reviewed and can be removed from the marketplace.
Messages come before booking. You can write to a tutor before you book anything. Tell them your level and what you want out of the lessons, and they will tell you honestly whether they are the right person. That conversation lives in your inbox on the site.
A trial lesson is not a sales call. It is a real 30 minute lesson at a lower price. Tutors use it to work out your level and agree a plan, and you use it to find out whether an hour with this person is an hour well spent.

Filtering by language and by the hours you are free takes about a minute, and messaging a tutor costs nothing.
