This page describes the personal data LinguMon holds, why it exists, and what you can ask us to do with it. It covers the website and the video classroom.
Account details. Your email address, the display name you choose, your password in hashed form, your timezone, and optionally a photograph and a country. Tutors additionally provide a public profile: a headline, a description, the languages and levels they teach, specialities, rates, availability, and any credentials they choose to list.
Activity on the platform. Lessons booked, cancelled and completed, with times, prices and status. Messages you exchange with another user. Reviews you write. Favourites you save. Notifications generated for you.
Money records. Credit top-ups, the movements in and out of your balance, and payout requests if you teach. We do not store card numbers. Where card payment is enabled, the card details go directly to the payment provider and never reach our servers.
Technical data. Ordinary server logs, which include IP address, browser type and the pages requested, kept for security and for diagnosing faults.
To run your account and let you sign in. To show tutor profiles to students, which is the point of a public profile. To take a booking, hold the slot, move the money and open the classroom at the right time. To let you and your tutor message each other. To publish reviews so other learners can judge a tutor. To detect abuse and fraud. To keep the financial records that tax and accounting rules require.
We do not use your data to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.
A tutor profile is public, including the display name, photograph, country, description, languages, rates and reviews. That is unavoidable in a marketplace where students choose who to book.
A student account is not public. A tutor you book with sees your display name, your photograph if you set one, your timezone, the lessons between you and any note you attach to a booking. A review you write shows your display name and photograph next to it.
We use a small number of service providers to run the platform, and they only receive what their part requires:
We also disclose data where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to deal with fraud or a credible risk of harm to someone.
LinguMon does not record the audio or video of lessons. We keep the fact of a lesson, its time, length, price and status, but not its content.
If a tutor or a student wants to record a lesson, that is a matter between the two of you and requires the other person to agree first. Text chat inside the classroom is not kept after the lesson ends. Messages sent through the site inbox are kept, because you both need to be able to read them later.
The site uses cookies that are needed for it to work: one that keeps you signed in, and the ordinary security cookies a form needs to protect itself. There are no advertising cookies and no third-party tracking scripts on the site, so there is no consent banner to click through.
Account and profile data is kept while your account exists. Lesson and payment records are kept after that for as long as accounting and tax rules require, because they are the evidence of a transaction. Server logs are kept for a short period for security and diagnostics.
When an account is deleted, the profile and its content are removed from the site. Reviews you wrote may remain in place with the name removed, because deleting them would misrepresent a tutor's record to other learners.
You can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct anything wrong, ask for your account and data to be deleted, or object to a particular use. Much of it you can do yourself: your profile, timezone and password are editable in your settings.
To make a request, write to us from the email address on the account so we can be sure it is you. We answer within a month and we tell you what we did. If we cannot do something you asked for, we will explain which rule prevents it.
Passwords are stored hashed, never in readable form. Traffic to the site is encrypted. Access to the production database is limited to the people who operate the service. No system is perfect, and if data of yours is exposed in a breach we will tell you what happened rather than hoping you do not notice.
An account must be held by an adult. Where lessons are for a child, the account belongs to a parent or guardian who arranges and oversees them. We do not knowingly create accounts for children on their own, and we remove any we find.
If this notice changes, the date at the top changes with it, and we will email account holders about anything material rather than editing the page quietly.
